Nigerian Journal of Microbiology is published by the Nigerian Society for Microbiology (NSM). It is a purpose driven, peer reviewed (disciplinary/professional) Journal. The Journal provides the sieve for the publications of most important and outstanding scientific research in Medical, Environmental, Industrial, Agricultural, Food, Petroleum and other aspects of Microbiology in Nigeria. Its establishment several decades ago is to satisfy the wish and desire of many research conscious microbiologists in the Universities and other higher institutions in Nigeria. It also provides a platform for the presentation of their findings and a channel of communication between indigenous researchers, lecturers and policy makers in the field of microbiology and their colleagues in other parts of the world. The Journal invites original papers, critical review articles, case studies, technical reports and short communications on recent findings in all aspects of microbiology that are not published or not considered for publication elsewhere. It is the aim of the Editorial Board of the NJM to inform authors of the decision on their manuscript within six (6) weeks of submission. NJM is a biannual Journal published in June and December.
We encourage you to submit your manuscript to the Nigerian Journal of Microbiology (NSM Journal). It is the objective of the Nigerian Society for Microbiology to use the Journal as a platform for our colleagues in the academic community, public service and industry to showcase their research findings to the international community. Thus, we publish peer reviewed, original and high quality articles, case studies, critical reviews etc in Medical, Environmental, Industrial, Mycology, Public Health and Food Microbiology. Indisputably, the NSM Journal remains the leading publisher of new findings, ideas, state of the art research results and advances in Microbiology in Nigeria. It is the aim of the editorial board of the NSM journal to inform authors of the decision on the manuscript within six weeks of submission. Following acceptance, a paper will be published in the next edition of the journal. Our mission is to contribute to the advancement of microbiology by providing the platform for original research communication at minimal cost and within the shortest period.
The journal’s acceptable maximum similarity index (SI) after plagiarism check is 12%. Author(s) with SI between 13 to 30% will be advised to review their manuscript(s) to bring the SI to 12% or below. Manuscript(s) with SI of 30% and above shall be outrightly rejected. The plagiarism check shall exclude items that rarely contribute to similarity index such as authors’ names and addresses, Tables, Figures, Plates and References. Where sentences and paragraphs are lifted from published and other sources and placed in the manuscript especially in the Introduction, Results, Discussion and Conclusion without putting them in quotes and acknowledging the sources, the manuscript shall be returned to the author(s) to rework in order to bring down the SI to 12% or below. Where the high matches are in the Methodology, the Editorial Committee shall determine if they are procedures or protocols that are universally similar in translation/interpretation and author(s) shall not be penalized. Authors are advised to check the SI of their manuscripts using the free version of the Journal’s plagiarism checker (Quetext) at http://www.quetext.com before submission to NJM.
